A little about "Why"...
TeaHaus is a privately owned small business by Lisa
McDonald. After a small 'backpacking trip' though Germany which became
a 10-year residence, in order to start her family with her husband Marc
(who she met overseas, though he is the native Ann Arborite) they moved
back to the States. Through it all, the one thing she truly missed was
the quality and availability of tea she experienced while in Germany:
"In
Germany, there's a tea house in every town, and you just don't have
that kind of availability or selection here in the States."
Inspired to open TeaHaus, Lisa chose to go with a
German company, TeeGschwendner, for her teas, as TeeGschwendner is the
only company that has their own testing facility and does not outsource
their research... also, 'Germans being Germans', they don't compromise
their high standards for an inferior product.
Our mission at TeaHaus is to provide a valuable
experience through educating the residing Ann Arbor community, and
patrons coming from throughout Michigan, regarding tea, and its quality.
What do we offer?
Since opening, we carry nearly 200 selectable tea
options, from varities of tea by region and flush, and those teas
blended with fruits, herbals, and the occasional extract. The staff
working at TeaHaus is exceptionallay knowledgeable and experienced with
the teas they sell, including recommendations and their own
blends. Though quality-tested loose-leaf tea, teaware/preparation-ware
is the foundation of our establishment, we also brew most any of our
teas for you hot (12oz/$2.60, 20oz/$3.55) or iced (2oz/$3.55) 'To Go', or 'To Stay'.
